For this project I only used secondary research, I used my Pinterest a lot while I was doing this, I also had a look through a book that I had got from the library. The book was about William Morris’ work I took this book out but I didn’t use it for a very long period of time. I decided to use William Morris for my historic artist, I chose him because I liked his floral designs and the way he arranged patterns. To put my mood boards together I chose 3 pictures from a variety of artists then I arranged them so they looked neat and professional, I decided to do John Howe who did the paintings for the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, he mainly uses watercolour to paint scenes or landscapes I thought this would work well with Morris’ floral patterns. Throughout the project I used a wide range of techniques including puff binder, where you paint onto the paper then, using a heat gun,(do not touch the heat gun as it will be very hot) warm up the paint which then makes the paint grow like popcorn, we used batik; using wax on paper, to pour the wax you use a Tjanting, do not touch the Tjanting however as the hot wax will heat the metal. Weaving, where using either a cardboard or peg loom you weave the wool in and out of itself making a weave. We also did hand sewing and sewing machine, in both of these you will use sharp needles which can be a danger hazard. Whenever we entered the textiles workshop, we had to sign in, this is in case there was a fire which the teacher would then have to look at to see if all the children were there. When I brought my work in to be peer assessed I was told that it wasn’t finished so I took my work back home to work on. My strengths were my drawing and watercolour painting skills, I think they are where my work really shone, however the other techniques I have tried are not as strong as I don’t think I enjoyed them as much. I also enjoyed using coloured pencil on black paper.
If I was to do this project again I would definitely manage my time more and stop spending too much time on a sheet whichas left me so far behind on my other sheets, I need to start spreading my time over the whole course of the sheets and make sure I put the same amount of effort into them all. What went well through my project was my drawing and painting technique, however what went badly was my use of my blog, I get so caught up in my work that I forget to use my blog at all which then means I have to also catch up on them too, I need to definitely manage my time better. If I could change anything about this project I would have rushed some of my sheets making me finish all the sheets quicker.
I did not manage my time well at all and tha is why I have done so badly on this project.
